Get tested and get the results you need to move forward

Alpha-1 is a progressive disease, which means that it can worsen over time and cause more damage to your lung function if left undiagnosed and untreated.1

Getting tested for Alpha-1 is the first step toward better understanding your lung disease and overall health and receiving appropriate treatment.

Alpha-1 can only be diagnosed by a blood test

There are many ways that other serious lung disorders can be diagnosed by your doctor. When testing for other serious lung diseases, your doctor may:

  • Measure the ability of your lungs to take in air
  • Take an X-ray to look at the condition of your lungs
  • Listen to your breathing with a stethoscope

These are all tests and observations that your doctor performs to evaluate the physical symptoms of lung disease.

However, because the symptoms of Alpha-1 are often identical to those of other common disorders, an accurate diagnosis of Alpha-1 based on clinical presentation alone is not possible.6 An accurate diagnosis can only be achieved by taking a blood test.

DNA1 Advanced Alpha-1 Screening™

DNA1 Advanced Alpha-1 Screening is a free and easy-to-use Alpha-1 test that can identify Alpha-1 genes and variants that other tests may miss.10

DNA1 Advanced Alpha-1 Screening delivers comprehensive test results and provides educational materials to help you and your doctor through an Alpha-1 diagnosis.

There are many Alpha-1 tests available, but the DNA1 Advanced Alpha-1 Screening Test Kit is the first and only advanced Alpha-1 test offering targeted genotyping and next-generation gene sequencing without the need for additional testing.

Targeted genotyping

  • DNA1 looks beyond the most common gene alleles to identify cases involving rare variants that other tests can’t detect

Next-generation sequencing of the SERPINA1 gene

  • DNA1 provides complete next-generation genetic sequencing of the SERPINA1 gene to identify known and previously undiscovered variants
  • Sequencing of the SERPINA1 gene helps identify all Alpha-1 patients and carriers, even if they have a rare gene

Early testing and diagnosis can help you and possibly your family members receive appropriate treatment and elevate levels of alpha-1 antitrypsin in your body.

How do I get tested using the DNA1 Advanced Alpha-1 Screening test?

  • Order your free test and take it to your next doctor’s appointment
  • Your doctor or nurse will administer the test and send it to the lab to get results
  • Test results will be sent from the lab to your doctor
  • Your doctor will contact you when your test results are received
